Best Movie of 2007

Atonement
What a great movie!  Certainly the best movie from 2007, even better than "Lust, Caution" (which suffers from lost in translation on a non-Chinese audience).
For such a long time, I haven’t seen one that I would rush out of the theatre and tell everybody what an inspiring movie I just saw. The previous one was perhaps the third film of the Three Colour Trilogy.

I did not read the novel so I can’t tell if "Atonement" is a faithful adaptation. But I’m tempted to try the book myself… and thanks to the Internet, I read so much about the Dunkirk Evacuation last night. It’s so easy to find reading material on any subject now.

Anyhow, I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t write anything about the plot. But trust me, it’s a great story, plus wonderful acting and some breathtaking cinemaphotography work.

The biggest buzz now is Keira Knightley may win the Oscar on her role of Cecilia. But to me, the most fascinating character is Cecilia’s younger sister Briony (at 13, she is played by Saoirse Ronan; at 18, by Romola Garai; and then, as an old woman, by Vanessa Redgrave). Saoirse Ronan outshines Keira Knightley in the film and deserves a Best Actress nomination.

A mistake that ruined 3 peoples’ lives forever. Would that not make you think twice before you lie?

Hypocrites
Merry belated X’ams and Happy New Year first of all!!  Took a week off and it went by so fast. Can’t believe it’s already 2008.

My arm is still hurt from the shovelling… if there are still people out there being fooled by Al Gore’s "inconvenient truth", please come visit Toronto. We’ve got so much snow up here this Winter that I would love to personally shove him into the snowbank in front of my house. Global warming my ass.

Anyhoo, those hypocrites saying we should cut back on greenhouse gas emission and then flew half a world away to Bali for the UN Climate Change conference… their credibility is about zero by now.

I’m sure this year will have many interesting changes (if Obama and Huckabee can win in Iowa, anything can happen). Wish all of you a healthy and prosperous 2008!Smile
