Just came back from karaoke tonight… haven’t sung for so long and even though I know I sing pretty bad, it was fun!

 

The best part of karaoke, is certainly not the overpriced food, or the standard drinks… to me, it’s to listen to (or learn) new songs sung by my more talented friends.

But I found out tonight that an even better part is to reacquaint with old songs that I haven’t listened for a while… i.e. I wouldn’t remember a singer from HK I used to like (when I was in secondary school?), 蔡立兒, if a friend didn’t choose one of Choi’s best songs, "絕戀"!  (Note: And it also shows your age, from your song selection)

 

The other song was, haha, from yanzi again… I almost forgot she sang this wonderful English song, "Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough" (original singer Patti Smith)… I just love her voice!

“You’ll never walk alone” and “I still believe”

Liverpool and San Antonio

I have been so happy since Saturday!!

 

Liverpool did it again!  Just like last year’s Champions League final, they came backing from a 3-goal deficit in the FA Cup final… tied the game, went to overtime, and then won on penalty kicks!!

This is perhaps the most exciting match of the season, and definitely the most exciting FA Cup final I ever watched… it’s really not good for the heart as a Liverpool fan!

 

The 2 goals from captain Steven Gerrard are simply amazing… unbelievable… especially the last one, a 30-yard thunderbolt, in the 91st minute!!

If he can keep up his form, England will certainly win the World Cup.

 

The best quote came from captain of the opposing team West Ham United, Nigel Reo-Coker:

 

"That was a world-class moment from him in injury-time. That’s what changed the game – you have to show him respect."

"I don’t think there is anybody else who could shoot with one touch in the last minute from 30 yards like that and score. He’s the only player in England who can do that, and maybe in the world.’"

 

It really speaks a lot about Gerrard when the compliments are coming from the opponent, after a heart-breaking loss…

 

So, I jumped up and down many times when he scored… went totally crazy!!  When the crowd started singing the team song "You’ll never walk alone" at the end, it was just great!

Watched so much sports tonight… first, it was the Champions League final, with Arsenal losing to Barcelona (it wasn’t as much fun to watch, as Arseanl was playing with one fewer man after a red card)… and then it was an NBA playoff match, San Antonio Spurs vs Dallas Mavericks.

 

A best-of-7 series, Dallas was leading San Antonio 3-1. So, Spurs has to win all 3 matches to avoid elimination!  Just when it seemed the series couldn’t get any more amazing or intense, the closing seconds of a thrilling Game 5 ratcheted everything up another level.

 

Duncan, Parker and Ginobili all had a great game but Dallas was playing good as well… it wasn’t decided until the final seconds!  I jumped out of my chair and almost hit the desk when Ginobili had that behind-the-back move with a nice layup!

 

The best sign from the crowd is from a young lady in Spurs jersey: "I still believe"

What a great line (one way to be on national TV is bring a great sign to NBA playoff games, she was shown on TV at least twice)!  I do believe the Spurs will win the series!!!!!

Have you ever noticed all sports films have basically the same plot (with some minor variations)?  The underdog trains hard, gets to the final, has some initial success, but then ends up with a mountain to climb… however, the ending is always the same: against all odds, the team (or the main character) comes from behind and wins the title.

 

Even though it’s the same old stuff, I have to admit, it works perfectly on these 2 occasions!

 

P.S. Haha… it seems I have been writing more and more sports… is it getting boring?   I will try to diversify, but with World Cup coming, no guarantee…

Oh, it was a great boost when I was told my blog is good today… thank you… I will try to write better and more often (btw, Morlinja, my inspiration, hasn’t been blogging much lately)…

End of fairy tale

Sad ending

Oh well, you can’t really expect every story to be a fairy tale, right?

It’s quite a sad ending… after 2 unbelievable come-from-behind wins, Middlesbrough finally ran out of gas in the UEFA Cup final. And they were really outclassed by the Spanish team Sevilla, losing 4-0!!

 

The last match managed by Steve McClaren before he moves on to team England. It would have been such a nice finale…

But sometimes, life is just without a perfect ending… just when you think everything is clicking and the goal is within grasp… I guess one just needs to learn how to accept defeat. And make a graceful exit.

 

Ok, so what’s the moral of this final story?  Perhaps this: "Give it your best shot. No regret."

“My Desired Happiness”

Yanzi again…

She is quite an unusual superstar… a while back, she had a relationship with a classmate from Singapore after losing contact for a few years.

Imagine a superstar falling in love with an ordinary person (Notting Hill?)… I was very impressed with that. It’s a pity the relationship didn’t work out as they broke up last year.

 

She had a concert in Malaysia yesterday, singing quite a few songs (did I mention all her songs are great/good?)… anyhoo, I read on the news that when she sang my favourite song, "My Desired Happiness", emotion took over… with tears in her eyes, she said:

 

「人生的路很難，如果有人在身邊相伴，路會走得更開心。」

 

How true… so touching…

 

Oh, btw, don’t be mistaken, it is actually a very upbeat song…

A bit of everything

Stairs, World Cup and Twins

I haven’t been blogging the last week… when you don’t do things right away, you probably won’t do them at all. I was going to share a few subjects but I was too tired to do so… and now, I forgot what they were!

 

Anyhoo, let me start with my office move (finally) from 3rd to 5th floor. With the 2 extra floors, I guess I’m doing a bit more exercises for the last 2 weeks?  I do take the stairs mostly (I just can’t believe those lazy people taking elevator for ONE floor) since I don’t exercise much… haha…

 

Never, never, never take the elevator when you are leaving office for home, or when you have a full bladder…

 

I read an interesting news on yahoo: staff at Japan’s Health Ministry are being asked to ditch the elevator and take the stairs!  Imagine if you are that poor Japanese worker with office on the 22nd floor!!

And speaking of exercise, only a month till the World Cup in Germany!

The biggest news these days, of course, is around team England… they have finally named Steve McClaren to be the new England manager. McClaren is the manager of Middlesbrough (the team I wrote about twice before). A smart man with a few amazing come-from-behind games this season. I think it’s a wise appointment.

 

The other piece of (bad) news is Wayne Rooney has broken foot… and he may not recover in time for the World Cup.

England will have a tough time winning without Rooney. This is indeed bad news for everybody.

And speaking of World Cup, I have been listening to Twins concert CD for the last few days… they may not be the best singers, but most of their songs are very upbeat and they are perfect for work day drives. One of the songs in the concert is 二人世界杯. I had a big smile when I heard this line: "去吧 去吧 攔截我吧 上吧 上吧 上吧 來突圍吧 再別插花 進攻讓我一抱入懷吧"… very witty lyrics…

No wonder some parents won’t allow their young daughters to be fans of Twins… their approach to love is… hehe… so direct!!  (The other one with the same philosophy is 戀愛大過天)
